Brief introduction of HDD and SSD

HDD is short for Hard Drive Disk. It’s a data storage device used for storing and retrieving digital information using rapidly rotating disks coated with magnetic material. Usually, hard disk drive is the main and largest data storage in a computer. The hard disk drive stores operating system, programs and most other files.

SSD is short for solid-state drive. It’s a data storage device using integrated circuit assemblies as memory to store data persistently. While its technology uses electronic interfaces compatible with traditional block input/output hard disk drives.

Differences between HDD and SSD

There are differences between the two types of storage device both in speed and reliability. HDD use a type of magnetism that allows very small “bits” on the disk to either be ‘on’ or ‘off’. Data is encoded in a binary form. While SSD do not use these “bits”, but instead record a type of electrical energy on its surface which allows them to store much more data in a smaller space. Compared with HDD, SSD is much faster in speed and more reliable in reliability.

We need to make some adjustments between HDD and SSD In many cases, such as, cloning OS HDD to create bootable SSD for Windows 7 or migrating OS to SSD or HDD, etc.

Clone Windows 7 from HDD to SSD

If you decided to upgrade your current hard drive with a fast SSD, but you just installed Windows 7, all apps, and got settled in new OS, and really don’t want to speed an entire day reinstalling it all again. Since you want to “clone” the system from one disk to another, you will need to make the size of the backup image we’re going to use smaller. In Windows, there are generally three steps in achieving this goal, including set system disk partition down, make the Windows 7 image and restore your system to your SSD. Once it’s done, it will reboot, and your system is now on your new and fast SSD.

Well, would it possible to take the current installation from a much bigger hard drive over to one of the small and fast SSD without reinstalling? Of course, third party software provides you a great help in solving the problem. Here, I’d like to recommend you AOMEI Partition Assistant, professional software which helps you solve all the problems on one stage, including backup image, clone system partition and resize your system partition. What’s more, it’s faster in cloning Windows 7 from HDD to SSD without data loss.

The software works well with Windows platform. With its help, you can also resize partition, move partition, merge partitions, split partition, allocate free space, create partition and delete partition, etc. Apart from migrating OS to new SSD, you can also convert FAT to NTFS, convert primary to logical partition and convert MBR to GPT disk, etc.
