How to extend system volume on dynamic disk? I need to extend
dynamic system volume on Windows Server 2003. Through searching tech forums, such kind
of question is not hard to find. More and more Server administrators prefer to take
dynamic disk as their choice. This is because dynamic disk has more advantages than
basic disk (difference between dynamic disk and basic disk), especially
in extending volume.
Extend dynamic volume in Windows Server 2003
It is well known that under built-in Disk Management we could extend dynamic volume.
However, in Windows Server 2003, extending volumes could only base on data volume,
system/boot volume is not able to handle. Therefore, how to extend system volume on
dynamic disk becomes a hot topic.
In traditional method, we could only convert dynamic disk to basic then extend volume under basic
disk. However, through this way, no one could guarantee the data 100% secure. So,
this is the reason why so many computer engineers are expecting for a Dynamic Disk
Manager which could extend system volume on dynamic disk like partition magic does
on basic disk. AOMEI Partition Assistant Server is the right one
they look for. With the help of this partition software, people could extend dynamic
volume directly, no mater it is the system volume or data volume. Let’s see how it
works in Windows Server 2003.
Extend system volume on dynamic disk with AOMEI Partition Assistant Server
Note: The “Extend System Volume” function is available only if the continuous
unallocated space is behind system volume. If there is no unallocated space, you
could shrink or delete other volume to generate some unallocated space and move the
unallocated space behind system volume.
Step1. Launch AOMEI Partition Assistant Server, click "Dynamic Disk" to initiate dynamic disk manager, and then right-click D:
drive, then select “Shrink Volume”.

Step2. In the pop-up window, drag the right slider leftwards to shrink
volume and generate unallocated space, then click "OK"

Step3. After that, there is some unallocated space behind D: volume. Then,
right-click D: volume, and select “Move Slice”.

Step4. In the window that pops up, drag F: volume rightwards to make the
unallocated space behind system volume. Click “OK”.

Step5. Then, right-click C: drive and select “Resize /Move Volume”.

Step6. In the new window, pull the right slider rightwards to extend
system volume. Click “OK”.

Step7. You can click “View Pending Operations” on the toolbar, then
click “Commit” to finish all the operations.

Note: The operations on system volume need to be completed under the Boot
Mode, namely, rebooting is required. The operations may be complete in a few minutes.
Now, you will find that with the help of AOMEI Partition Assistant Server, extending
system volume on dynamic disk is as easy as you see, and this software could also
support Windows Server 2000/2008(R2)/2012(R2)/2016/2019, Windows XP/Windows 7/8/Vista. Here, you could free
download it and put our tutorial into practice.
Tip: For Enterprise users, we recommend AOMEI Partition Assistant Unlimited Edition, which allows
unlimited usage within one company.
