Why need to resize dynamic disk on Server 2003?

Dynamic disk is one of the most commonly used in Windows operationg system. It has different way to configurate volume and data. A Dynamic disk consists of volumes. And it supports 5 types of volumes: simple volume, spanned volume, striped volume, mirrored volume, and RAID-5 volume.

And sometimes, there can be a volume is getting full, while other volumes have a lots of free space. In this condition, you will need to resize the volume on the Windows Server 2003 by shrinking or extending volume so that you can utilize the disk space more rationally.

You may try to perform that in Server Disk Management. But it is not recommneding here. Because it has a limitation on resizing dynamic volume. Then "Extend Volume" works when there is an adjacent unallocated space after the volume needs to be extend. otherwise, the "Extend Volume" option will be greyed out.
