Move free space in Windows 7

Many Windows users did not partition their disks in a reasonable way at first. Sometimes, the C drive is too small to store all the applications. Or the past enough C drive becomes less and less, and it is even running out of space as time goes by. To get more free space on this drive, most of people deleting the old or unnecessary files. But this could not solve the problem from the source. However, there are plenty free volumes in other drives. Is it possible to move some free space from one partition to the system drive?

Actually, there are some ways to move some free space from other drive to the C drive indeed. Windows 7 users know that the Disk Management snap-in the function Extend/Shrink Volume. And people can use the Extend Volume to increase the C drive if there is a contiguous unallocated space at the right of C drive, otherwise, the Extend Volume would be grayed out. Then, how to move free space from D drive to C drive in Windows 7?

Move free space from D partition to C drive

Except Windows built-in tool Disk Management, you can use some third-party software to move free space from other partition to system partition. AOMEI Partition Assistant is a great software for managing disks. It can partition drives without losing data, and it has many editions for different clients. For example, the Server edition supports Windows Server 2003/2008 (R)/2012 (R) and all Windows PC OS. Step1. Install and launch AOMEI Partition Assistant. You will see there is no contiguous unallocated space right behind C drive. Fortunately, this software provides a way to move free space from D drive to C drive directly.

Step2. Right click D drive, select Allocate Free Space (please note that only paid edition has this feature).

Then, you will open the window of Allocate Free Space. Input the specific size at the blank behind Allocate Free Space, and select the destination partition C drive. It will tell you the current D partition’s and C partition’s size after allocating the space. Click OK to move on.

Step3. After you clicking OK, you will back to the main interface and you will see the change of C partition and D partition. Don’t forget to click Apply to submit all the operations.
