Partitioning is a process to divide a physical disk into several independent drive partitions. When you boot a new Lenovo laptop for the first time, usually, you’ll find there’s only 1 partition – the C drive there. So, next, you need to partition the hard drive to create other partitions including D, E, and F. But why should we do this? Here, I list the top 3 reasons.
1) Better data organization: After the hard drive on a Lenovo laptop is divided into several partitions, you can manage your data more easily. For example, you can put the system-related files in the C drive and put other files in the D, E, and F drive.
2) Run multiple operating systems on the laptop: If you want to install multiple different operating systems on the Lenovo laptop, you should have several independent partitions to install the OSes.
3) Minimize the threats of data loss: If you put the OS files and other personal data in different drives, then, you can suffer from less data loss when you encounter a system crash that asks for OS reinstallation.

1. Right-click on "This PC" and go to "Storage > Disk Management".
2. Right-click on the only partition – the C drive – and select "Shrink Volume".
3. Determine the amount of space to shrink and hit the button "Shrink".
4. After the shrinking completes, you’ll get a piece of “unallocated space” next to the C drive. Right-click on the unallocated space and select “New Simple Volume” from the results. Then, follow the onscreen guide to finish the rest steps.
To create more partitions, just repeat the steps above.

Step 1. Install and launch AOMEI Partition Assistant Professional. Then, right-click on the C drive and select "Split Partition".
Step 2. In the following window, you can customize the size of the source partition and new partition by adjusting the length of the 2 green bars. After that, click on "OK".
Note: If it’s an SSD partition, remember to tick the option "Allow partition alignment to optimize the performance of SSD".
Step 3. Hit "Apply > Proceed" as the screenshot displays to commit the operation.
If you want to create multiple partitions, you can try the feature of "Quick Partition" to create at most 10 partitions at once. If there is already a partition on the target disk, "Quick Partition" will remove it which causes data loss. So, make a backup first. When you quick partition a hard disk, you can freely customize the sizes and change their labels.
