Does PowerQuest PartitionMagic 9 exist?
PartitionMagic is a piece of high-efficiency partition management software that allows you to create a partition, delete partition, extend partition, merge partition, resize partition, copy NTFS or FAT partitions, convert file system between FAT and NTFS, change cluster size and so on. It is originally made by PowerQuest. However, it was acquired by Symantec on December 5, 2003. And it released the PartitionMagic 8.0.5 and changed its name to Norton PartitionMagic.
By far, the Norton PartitionMagic 8.0.5 is the last and latest release. On December 8, 2009, the Symantec website stated that they no longer offer technology support on PowerQuest Partition Magic. And on October 13, 2011, the Symantec website states, “Sorry, we no longer offer Norton Partition Magic”. So, there is not any PowerQuest or Norton PartitionMagic 9.

Although there is PartitionMagic 8 available for usage, it is not compatible with Windows Vista and later versions. And since Windows 7, 8, 10 was released, many users shift from Windows XP to Windows 7 or Windows 10 due to their superiority. Thus, a substitute for PowerQuest Partition Magic is necessary. Here we would like to share the free partition manager named AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard.
This freeware can run on all editions of Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7 and Windows XP/Vista (32-bit and 64-bit). And it keeps updating and tries to be perfect all the time. So, you don’t have to worry that you cannot get technology supports someday in the future. You can click the below button to free download it and check out its main functions in the next section.
Main functions of free PartitonMagic alternative
To check what operations you can perform on a specific partition, just right click the partition (refer to the following picture):
Most popular functions introduction:
▸Merge Partitions: allows users to merge two adjacent partitions into one, or merge non-adjacent unallocated space into another partition. Quite useful when you want to extend C drive with unallocated space.
▸Move Partition: move a partition, which is adjacent to a piece of unallocated space on the right or left side, to another location. Mainly used for making unallocated space adjacent to the partition you want to extend.
▸Copy Partition: clone one partition to another drive or a different disk. A quick and convenient way to transfer data between two different locations and ensure everything work well as before.
▸Wipe Partition: wipe all data from the selected partition and write zeros to it, preventing others from easily restoring information.
▸Check Partition: check whether there are bad sectors on the selected partition and try to fix them if possible.
Likewise, to check what you can do on a whole hard disk, please right click on the disk (more details can be found in the screenshot):
Most popular functions list:
▸Copy Disk: support copying data disk without MBR and GPT partition style restriction. To clone system disk, it can only clone MBR boot disk to another MBR disk.
▸Rebuild MBR: rebuild Master Boot Record when your Windows cannot boot due to damaged MBR.
▸Convert to GPT/MBR disk: enable you to convert MBR to GPT, or GPT to MBR without deleting inside partitions or volumes. Only work for data disk.
▸Wipe Hard Drive: securely wipe everything from the selected hard drive and write zeros to it so that you can protect your privacy from leakage.
Apart from these above most-used functions, the alternative to PartitionMagic has also some other great wizards:
1. Migrate OS to SSD Wizard: migrate only OS related partitions from MBR to MBR SSD or HDD and ensure you can boot from the destination disk after migration.
2. NTFS to FAT32 Converter: convert file systems from FAT32 to NTFS and NTFS to FAT32 without formatting or losing data.
3. Windows To Go Creator: burn Windows IOS files to USB drive to make a portable Windows bootable device, with which you can boot any computer (even a brand new one) into your familiar OS environment.
4. Make Bootable Media: create a bootable device, which allows you to enter WinPE mode and fix Windows boot issues or perform some tricky operations that cannot be done within Windows, such as format C drive.
With all amazing functions, I believe the AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard is a great alternative when the PowerQuest or Norton PartitionMagic cannot meet your requirements. Most importantly, there is more than one version for your selections. For example, the Professional edition provides more advanced features than free edition; the Server edition is specially designed for Windows Server users; the Unlimited version can be installed onto an unlimited number of computer within one company and the Technician version allows technicians to provide billable services & unlimited for enterprise usage.
