UEFI GPT system combination is better compared to the traditional MBR BIOS system combination.
One is that GPT doesn’t limit partition quantity, MBR supports only at most four primary partitions. GPT can support partition size more than 2TB, exceed the partition size’s maximum limit of MBR disk.
One of UEFI’s advantages is operation simplification. UEFI provocatively subverts the interface conception of BIOS. Make the operating interface easy-to-use like Windows. Mouse replaced keyboard as input device, functional modules are the same as Windows programs.
The UEFI has a strong compatibility as well as expansibility. Because it designed a protective MBR partition. And perfect support for the new GPT partition.
So we said UEFI GPT system is a good combination. More and more Windows 7/8 users like this combination. However, no matter how good the combination is, it still will be have problems when using. For example, Windows 7/8 installed on the basis of UEFI GPT, and its system partition is running out of space, how to resize the UEFI GPT system partition?
To resize UEFI GPT system partition with Windows Disk Management, you will face the problem that the Shrink Volume or Extend Volume grayed out so that you cannot resize partition through Windows Disk Management. To resize UEFI GPT partition easily and safely, I recommend you use a third-party partition software because it is more professional than the Windows built-in one. Its name is AOMEI Partition Assistant, which is completely supporting UEFI GPT combination. Let’s free download AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard Edition first and see how it works.
The first case: There is an unallocated space exists behind the system partition. Just right click C drive and select “Resize Partition”.
Extending the system partition by dragging the slider rightwards.
Back to the main menu, click “Apply” to execute the pending operation.
The second case: There is no unallocated space exists behind the system partition. You can use "Merge Partitions" function to add non-contiguous unallcoated space to the UEFI system partition.
Right-click on the C drive and select “Merge Partitions”.
Tick the unallocated space and click on “OK”.
Click on “Apply” to commit the pending operation.
AOMEI Partition Assistant can com completely replaces the Windows built-in partition manager. Its powerful functions include basic partition operations and professional partition operation. With its help, you can optimize partitions not only save time but also protect data.
Now, with the release of new version, it adds an amazing function named “Windows to go creator”, which enables you to create a portable Windows 8 no matter what your editions are. Then you can take the Windows 8 in your pocket wherever you go.
