Scenario: Acronis clone disk failed, see log for details

Hey. I bought a couple of Crucial BX300 (120gb) SSD's to upgrade a couple of computers at home to make it run faster for my Windows 10 laptop. But I get the following error when I use Acronis to clone the hard drive:

"Disk cloning has failed. See log for details."

I found the tool which lets me view the log files. I made two attempts to clone and both log files say the same thing. Please see the attachment. The hard drive in the laptop is 1tb but has less than 100gb used space. Can anyone tell me why can’t I clone with Acronis?

Many thanks,

Acronis True Image is widely regarded as top-notch cloning software today, preferred by many for disk cloning tasks. While it's generally efficient with minimal failures, there are times when it might falter, leading to error messages. Some common errors include:

Common errors of Acronis clone disk failed:
Clone Disk Operation Failed
Failed to run the task
Error 0x13c0005: Operation has completed with errors
Failed to execute the task script. 0x10002 Error #1364
A specified authentication package is unknown 0xFFF0
Error 0x00640067+0x0009FFFF
Clone failed to read sector/data from the disk

Why do the Acronis failed to clone disk?

These error messages often mean that your disk is corrupted, damaged, or other problems, which will easily cause issues like Acronis clone failed to read sector/data from the disk. Another common problem is when cloning hard drives from computer brands like Dell or HP. They often have locked partitions, especially the recovery partition, which can cause failures during the cloning process. At this time, people should usually create these recovery partitions to solve problems such as the operating system being damaged and unable to boot or the screen turning blue or black.

The third issue is that when you move from a large hard drive to a smaller solid-state drive (SSD), Acronis may not resize the recovery partition, finally leading to clone disk failed. However, you can still clone between drives of different sizes as long as if you choose a qualified tool.

To fix that, the Acronis official also provides suggestions like:

1. Check that other operations that require a system reboot (e.g. system disk recovery) are running.
2. Upgrade to the latest version to see if that solves the problem.
3. If your computer has enabled EFI mode, please boot the bootable media in EFI mode and then collect a system report.

What is the best Acronis alternative?

What to do if you can't fix Acronis error Clone disk operation failed even following the suggested methods? It is time to try other hard drive cloning software. AOMEI Partition Assistant Professional  must can be the best Acronis alternative. Why? Because it allows you to:

Benefits of using AOMEI Partition Assistant to clone disk
✍ 1. Clone a larger hard drive to a smaller disk by cloning only the available sectors of the hard drive to the new hard drive.
✍ 2. Clone the hard drive even including bad sectors that may lead to clone failed. For example, like Macrium Reflect clone failed error 9. And ensure it can boot successfully.
✍ 3. Allow disk partition resizing before cloning starts.
✍ 4. Automatically ensure SSD 4K alignment during the cloning process.
✍ 5. You can clone from SSD to SSD/HDD or from HDD to HDD/SSD.

Step 4. Then, you can check the source and destination disk in the next window or change to "Sector to Sector clone", and click the "Confirm" button to continue if there is no problem.

Here, you can also click the "Settings" button to adjust the partition size on the destination disk or tick "4k alignment" to Optimize the performance of SSD if the target disk is an SSD drive.

Tip: If you want to clone Windows to a smaller drive, the "Clone without resizing partitions"  button will be greyed out. Then, a Note about how to boot OS from the destination disk will pop up. Read and keep it in mind.

Step 5. After returning to the main interface, check the pending operation and click "Apply" and "Proceed" to commit the operation.

When the process is over, you can use the new hard drive to replace the old hard drive. If you keep both drives on your computer, you probably need to enter BIOS Settings to change boot drive.

◇ The follow the guide to set the new drive as the first boot drive

Step 1. Restart the computer, when you see the first screen, press the functional key (F2, F3, F4, F5, ESC) to enter "BIOS Setup". Or run AOMEI Partition Assistant to click "Tools" > "UEFI BIOS Boot Options Manager" in turn to directly enter BIOS.

Step 2. Select "Change boot order", and change the cloned hard drive to the top of the listed drives.

Change Boot Order

Step 3. Press “F10” to save and leave.

✍ Note:
1. If the cloned hard drive won't boot, you can check if the boot mode (BIOS and UEFI) and the connection boot are correct.
2. If it is a new SSD, please set the partition style (MBR or GPT) to the same as the old disk when you initialize the SSD. If you need to make a conversion, AOMEI Partition Assistant can help you convert between MBR/GPT without data loss.

Conclusion

If you encounter Acronis clone disk failed and cannot solve the problem, it is better to try the best Acronis alternative, AOMEI Partition Assistant. This software offers another function called Migrate OS, which is usually used to transfer the OS only.

Besides these, it supports extending drive space, recovering lost data, making bootable media, and so on. There is also the Server edition prepared for all Windows Server users.
