Why I can’t migrate OS to SSD?

“Hi, I’ve been trying to migrate OS to SSD in order to get more space and speed up my computer, but it always fails. At first, I tried to mark it as active, but it still won’t start. Later, I tried to create a system image, but there was no way to successfully move the OS to the SSD either. Even after trying the above steps repeatedly, I still cannot migrate OS to SSD. Any ideas?”

As is well-known, compared with traditional HDD, SSD has advantages including higher stability, faster read and write speed, lower working noise, etc. After using the computer for a while (especially receiving a low disk space warning), some Windows users want to migrate the operating system from HDD to SSD for better performance.

However, they were unable to migrate the OS to the SSD due to the space of system-related data occupied that might be the same size as the target SSD, lack of specific drivers and use of unsuitable migration software, etc. Here, we will introduce you an efficient migration software to solve the problem of can’t migrate OS to SSD.

How to migrate OS to SSD and boot from it successfully

As mentioned above, if the size of the target SSD is similar to the source drive, you need to reduce the capacity of the source drive to complete the migration. If the migration problem is caused by the driver problem, you need to upgrade the current driver. If the migration fails due to inappropriate software, you need to change the software.

If the migration fails due to software reasons, then you can try AOMEI Partition Assistant Professional may be an excellent choice. With its "Migrate OS to SSD" feature, this powerful data migrate tool can easily complete OS migration after a few simple clicks. In addition, it has some other attractive functions:

Besides migrating Windows, its "Disk Clone Wizard" function can clone the entire drive including personal data to another hard drive without reinstalling Windows.
If your Windows cannot boot properly, you can also create a bootable USB for system migration in Windows PE mode.
After completing the disk migration, its "Wipe Hard Drive" feature also can help you wipe the old hard drive as a data disk if necessary.

What to do before migrating OS?

Before migrating the operating system, please make sure that the following important preparations have been completed:

► If this is a desktop, you can install SSD directly with a screwdriver. But if this is a laptop, you must prepare a SATA to USB cable in advance to connect the computer and SSD smoothly.

After connecting the computer and SSD, if the SSD is a new hard drive, you need to initialize it first, otherwise it will be marked as “unknown”.
► The partition style of system drive must be same as the target drive, which refers to both of them should be MBR or GPT, so please convert MBR to GPT or GPT to MBR.
► Don't ignore the power problem, because once the computer is powered off, the entire migration process will be forcibly terminated.
