How to Create Windows PE Bootable USB or CD?
I used to use AOMEI Partition Assistant to manage my partitions. It is easy and useful. However, when I was first introduced to it, I was not familiar with it and made some mistakes, though it has an intuitive interface. Luckily, nothing serious was created. Later, I found there is a function in Partition Assistant that can prevent computers from damages due to wrong operations by green hands. It is “Make Bootable CD Wizard”.
The necessity to create bootable media
Creating a bootable media (ISO file, USB flash drive or CD/DVD) based on Windows PE (Windows Pre-installation Environment) can load an operating system and run Partition Assistant under the system. It can avoid damage to the native operating system due to some reasons, such as your wrong operation. It is very useful to troubleshoot computer problems and recover data when the native system fails to boot. Windows PE Bootable media enables you to start a computer for the purposes of deployment and recovery. It boots directly into memory, which lets you remove the Windows PE media after the computer boots. Once you have booted into Windows PE, you can reformat or modify the hard drive and then copy the Windows PE source files to the hard drive. However, how to make a WinPE bootable media? With the help of AOMEI Partition Assistant, it becomes very easy.
Before you do
Attach a USB flash drive or insert a blank CD/DVD to your computer. If you neither have USB nor CD/DVD, AOMEI Partition Assistant enables you to create a bootable ISO file, which can be burned to CD/DVD. In this situation, a burner (a kind of software which can make bootable CD/DVD) is needed.
For Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows Vista, and Windows 2008, please download Windows AIK (Automated Installation Kit) which is a set of tools that could help you configuring and deploying operating system to new hardware. If your system is Windows 7/8/8.1/2012 and Server 2008 R2, normally you can make a Windows PE bootable media without downloading and installing Windows AIK.
How to make a bootable WinPE media?
Step1: Install and launch AOMEI Partition Assistant. Click "Make Bootable CD Wizard" in the left panel under Wizards column, confirm the operation you are going to do and then click "Next" to continue.

Step2: AOMEI Partition Assistant will automatically detect whether your system has installed Windows AIK or not. If yes, please go to Step3, if not, please download and install Windows AIK, then click “Next” to go to step3.
Step3: There are three ways to create bootable media based on Windows PE. “Burn to CD/DVD”: To create bootable CD/DVD. “USB Boot Device”: To create bootable USB Device. “Export ISO File”: Use this method to make bootable ISO file. Choose one of them according to your need and click "Proceed". Here we take USB flash drive for example.
Choose USB Drive
Note: "Add Drivers" allows you to manually add additional drivers into the bootable media.
Step4: The USB flash drive needs to be formatted and all the data on it will lose. If there is important data on it, please make a backup and redo.
Step5: The progress of creating WinPE bootable USB drive will take a few minutes.

  • AOMEI Partition Assistant will detect and integrate all necessary drivers of the current system automatically. When the progress begins a few seconds, there will be a pop-up window with the list of these drivers.

  • To boot from the Windows PE USB flash drive or CD/DVD, you need to enter BIOS and change boot order under Boot Menu.

Actually, there is another function provided by Partition Assistant which is better to solve the problem. It is called Windows To Go Creator and is also under Wizards column. The essence of this service, to make it easy, is to make a copy of Windows OS and save the copy to another place (USB flash driver, CD/DVD or even cloud drive). If you store the backup of Windows in a USB drive, when the original OS stop working, you can insert the USB disk and reboot your computer from it by changing the boot order on Boot Menu (its picture is posted above). With this function, you can take the Windows anywhere. It is very convenient for you to start any computer with your own special Windows edition.
