Two situations of blank file system

Sometimes, you may encounter this problem of Disk Management blank which sometimes shows as two situations: Disk Management blank volume or Disk Management blank file system.

When you meet the first situation, you cannot extend volume, shrink volume or delete volume because it is an unallocated space without file system. If we want to use it, we have to create a new partition in it or allocate it to other partition. The second situation is raw file system which is called Disk Management blank file system.

When you meet the second situation, sometimes it is because Windows do not support the file system, like Ext2, Ext3, it shows blank in file system. Sometimes the file system shows RAW. When you access the RAW drive, you will get an error message like "The disk in drive is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?". In this situation, if we click "Yes", we will lose all of the files stored on this drive. On the contrary, if we click "No", the drive cannot be accessed.

Two ways to solve Disk Management blank volume

Method 1: Use Disk Management to create a new volume

To solve blank volume in Disk Management, we can use Window build-in tool Disk Management to create a new volume.

Step 1: Press the WIN + R shortcut to open the computer's “Run” window, type “diskmgmt.msc” and click OK. Or you can click Start and type “diskmgmt.msc” and press Enter.

Step 2: In disk 2, there is a 60GB unallocated space, right click it, and choose New Simple Volume. Click next and choose simple volume size, and then click next.

Step 3: For easier access, you can assign a drive letter or drive path to your partition. Choose an option and click next.

Step 4: To store data on this partition, you must format it first. Choose format this volume with the following setting and click next. At last, click finish to save operation.

Method 2: A more powerful and easy tool to create a new volume with AOMEI Partition Assistant

AOMEI Partition Assistant brings a wide variety of tools and user-friendly interface, which aims to make your PC disk partition management much easier and safer than ever.

Step 1: Download AOMEI Partition Assistant Professional and launch the software.

Step 2: Choose Disk 2 unallocated partition, right click it and choose create partition. You can choose partition size, file system or even advanced setting in a single page, then click OK.

Step 3: Click Apply to save the operation.

How to solve Disk Management blank file system

When you meet blank file system, sometimes it is because Windows do not support the file system, like Ext2, Ext3, it shows blank in file system. In this case, you can format it to NTFS or Fat32 file system.

Very often, the blank file system we talk about is that the drive shows RAW in file system. Actually, The RAW drive is a hard drive partition which has not been formatted with any file system FAT12/FAT16/FAT32, NTFS/NTFS5. The RAW drive can be caused by a number of reasons such as accidentally format failure, operating system shutdown, virus infection, etc.

To solve this problem, you can not use Windows build-in tool because it only provides one solution: format volume, in this case, you will lose all your data in the volume. You can use AOMEI Partition Assistant to solve this problem without data loss.

Step 1:

Open the installed AOMEI Partition Assistant. At the top navigation pane, click “Recovery” > “Partition Recovery” in turn.

Step 2: There are two search methods, select one and click next.

Step 3: Once the lost data are found, they will be displayed in the list box, and highlight the partition which you want to recover and click "Proceed" to continue. At last, click Finish to save the operation.

Step 4: After all this done, you can format the partition with NTFS file system or other file system.

Summary

From the above passage, it is not hard to find that AOMEI Partition Assistant has many advantages over Windows build-in tool Disk Management. For instance, Disk Management only supports 3 types of file system: FAT, FAT32 and NTFS. However, AOMEI Partition Assistant supports not only FAT, FAT32 and NTFS, but also EXT2 and EXT3.
