Why you need to migrate the data?
Data migration is a process of transferring or copying data between data formats,
data systems or computer systems. Generally, various data in the computer can be
stored on different storage media. According to different storage media and
storage technologies, they can be divided into disk storage, tape storage, optical
storage, magneto-optical storage, and so on. For average user, the most common used
storage media are generally hard disks, mobile hard disks, optical disks, USB
drives, etc. But because of mechanical and electrical reasons, once the media are
damaged, the storage data will be lost. For example, the USB flash disk’s gate
transistor structure capacitor can store data for a long time, but it can easily
cause component destruction or data loss due to frequent hot-swapping. So it’s not
suitable for long-term preservation of important data. Besides, when a problem
occurs in system, data may be damaged or lost. But if you use data migration tool to
migrate data to other place in advance, your data can be safe and sound, and you can
use it to do a system restore.
To avoid data loss, before you do such operation below, you can use a data migration
software to back up data or transfer data from one hard drive to another in windows
1. Replace your storage equipment
2. Replace your servers
3. Upgrade your storage equipment
4. Upgrade your servers
The best data migration tool
You may puzzled about how to do a data migration? For most people, the job of data
migration is complicated and cumbersome especially the data you need to migrate is
very large. A little carelessness can lead to the loss of important data. But
don’t worry, there still an easy and quick way of migrating data in Windows
10/8/7 - you can use a data migration tool to migrate data. Here I highly recommend
the best free data migration tool - AOMEI
Partition Assistant, which provides many functions to satisfied your
different data migration request, such as partition copy wizard, disk copy wizard,
even migrate OS to SSD.
Thus you can migrate data from one hard drive to another easily in Windows
How to migrate data in Windows 10/8/7?
Here the data migration tool AOMEI Partition Assistant provides you three methods to
migrate different data.
Method 1. Migrate data with the function of Disk Copy Wizard.
You don’t want the data loss after you change a new disk or a new SSD, this time you
can use AOMEI Partition Assistant to migrate data on the old hard drive to new hard
drive or SSD without data loss. The specific steps are as follows:
Step 1. Download install
and run AOMEI Partition Assistant. Your partition information will be displayed on
the main interface. Click “Disk Copy Wizard” at the left Wizard column, or
right click the disk you want to to copy and select “Copy Disk”.
* In the pop-up window, select the copy method of “Copy Disk Quickly”.
”Copy Disk Quickly” means copy the used sector only, and it only takes a short
time to do the copy; “Sector-by-Sector Copy” means copy all the sectors whether
the sector is in used or not, it will takes much more time to do the copy. And you
must make sure the size of the destination disk is larger than that of the source
Step 2. Then select destination disk, tick the option “Optimize
the performance of SSD” if the selected destination disk is an SSD storage,
then click “Next”.
After that you will get a note on the pop-up window that all data will be wiped on
destination disk, click “Yes” and in the next window, you can choose copy
options in your need. Click “Next”.
* If you have important data on the destination disk, please backup them to another
Step 3. Here you will get a note of boot operating system, and
then click “Finish”.
Step 4. Then it will back to main console and you could preview
the change of destination disk. Confirm these operations and Click “Apply” on
the toolbar to commit the operation.
Method 2. Migrate data with the function Migrate OS to SSD
If you just want to use the old system you are familiar with after replacing the
disk, you can only migrate the operating system to your new hard drive. The specific
steps are as follows:
Step 1. Run AOMEI Partition Assistant, your partition will be
displayed on the main interface. Then, click “Migrate OS to SSD” on the left
side under the Wizards column. In the pop-up window, click “Next” and select an
unallocated space on the destination disk (SSD or HDD), and then click “Next”.
* If you’re planning to migrate OS to a hard drive with partitions on, the progress
will delete all partitions in the disk.
Step 2. In this window, you can modify the information of the
partition on the new disk, of course, you can keep default settings. After setting
up all the information, click “Next” to read the note about “Boot Operating
System”. And then click “Finish” back to the main interface where you can
Step 3. Finally, click “Apply” button on the toolbar to
commit the “Pending Operations”.
Method 3: Migrate data with the function Partition Copy Wizard
If you just want to migrate the data of a partition, the function of Partition Copy
can help you to realize it. Let’s see how to do it:
Step 1. Launch AOMEI Partition Assistant, click “Partition Copy
Wizard” at the left Wizard column, or right click the partition you want to to
copy and select “Copy Partition”.
Step 2. In the next window, select “Copy Partition Quickly”,
click “Next” and then select the destination partition (The destination
partition should be an unallocated space which is equal or larger than the source
partition), tick the option “Optimize the performance of SSD” if the selected
destination disk is an SSD storage, and then click “Next”.
Step 3. In the next window, you can resize the new partition as
you want, and then click “Finish”.
Step 4. Then it will back to main console, preview the change
of destination disk. Confirm these operations and Click “Apply” on the toolbar to
commit the operation.
* Only the unallocated space could be selected as the destination place to contain
the source partition. You could delete unused partitions or shrink other partitions
to get an unallocated space if there is no unallocated space.
Follow these simple steps, you can effectively migrate data. AOMEI Partition
Assistant should be the best data migration tool. Besides migrating data, it
also has many other powerful features, such as Windows To Go Creator, Quick
partition, Make bootable media, Rebuild MBR and so on. If you want to convert system disk between MBR and GPT partition styles,
you can upgrade it to AOMEI Partition
