About GPT and MBR disk

As we all know, GPT and MBR are two types of disk in computer. They both have advantages and disadvantages.

GPT has several advantages. It can break the limitation of 2TB partition size, and allow the hard disk to create the primary partition up to 128. However, it cannot reboot the operating system. What a pity it is! Meanwhile, it cannot support Windows XP, Server 2000 and Server 2003(32bit).

As for MBR disk, it is the standard partitioning scheme that’s been used on hard disks since the PC first came out. It supports 4 primary partitions per hard drive, and a maximum partition size of 2TB.

Conversion between GPT and MBR

In order to make full use of the disk space, we usually convert MBR to GPT disk. When we do it like this, an error will come up: system disk cannot be transformed. Meanwhile, if the conversion wants to come into effect with Windows built-in Disk Management, the hard disk must have no data. How about GPT to MBR? Unfortunately, the Windows snap-in Disk Management has no way to achieve the goal except the disk is empty.

Perfect tool to convert GPT/MBR easily and safely

As it mentioned above, the Disk Management in Windows can only convert to GPT/MBR only if it is an empty disk, and GPT disk cannot make the operating system be converted. Generally speaking, both disks have their own features. In order to better use, we need to find a way which can easily convert GPT to MBR or convert MBR to GPT without losing data.

Luckily, there is one perfect tool to finish the conversion. AOMEI Partition Assistant Pro Edition, called a partition magic, can easily and safely do the job. It is really a wonderful partition tool for us. With its simple wizard, it is a piece of cake to accomplish the task.
