Overview of Check Bad Sector

A bad sector is a sector on a computer’s hard drive that has been damaged and has lost the ability to write and retrieve data. Bad sectors can sometimes corrupt your saved data as well as slow down your computer. In order to improve the performance of your computer, you can use the Check Bad Sector function to make sure that you hard disk has no errors.

There are dozens of ways to fix bad sector, the most effective one is to subdivide the bad sector into an independent unallocated space or use other repair tools.

  • Download and install AOMEI Partition Assistant on a Windows computer.
  • Attach the drive on which you would like to check bad sector.

How to Check Bad Sector Step by Step with Partition Assistant

To check bad sector of a Partition

Step 1. Choose a partition that you want to check, right-click it and choose "Advanced"> "Check Partition".

2. Select the way of checking errors to perform. As you can see from the following screenshot, there are three choices, simply choose the last one "Check whether there is bad sector on the partition" . And click "OK" to go to next step.

3. Click the "Start" button to check. It will display bad sector counts on the drive and the remaining time. You can also click the "Quick Check" to check bad sectors in a faster way.

4. After the check process has been finished, you will find normal and damaged sectors are displayed.

To check bad sector of a Disk

The process of check partition and check disk are roughly the same. That is to say, checking bad sector for disk shares the same steps with check bad sector for partition. The only difference is appeared in the first step. 
When you are going to check bad sector of a disk, the first step is to click on the disk which you want to check, and then choose "Test"> "Disk Surface Test". The remaining steps of this operating are all the same with check bad sector of a partition.
